New Day Care Home for Chadwell Heath Residents Opens

Rowallan Day Care Centre Opened its Doors in May

A new facility in Little Heath is bringing a ray of light for Chadwell Heath’s older residents.

At the end of last month, an established, family-run care home entered a brave new era. And the more mature members of the Chadwell Heath community are already reaping the benefits. Rowallan House has been providing residential elder care for more than 35 years, but it now boasts a day centre that provides much needed support in the wider community.

As established Chadwell Heath estate agents, we are only too aware that the local population is continuing to grow cross all demographics. This might be ideal commuter country, but there are also a large number of older residents – some have lived in the area for years, while others have moved away from areas closer to central London in retirement.

About Rowallan House

Originally opened in 1982 by Alan and Marina Stack as a 30-room care home, Rowallan House has always had a strong reputation as a “home from home” facility that provides care and comfort to its permanent residents.

In the intervening years, the capacity has increased from 30 to 41, and the Stacks’ sons, Mark and Kevin, along with Mark’s wife Nicky, have become increasingly involved in the running of the facility. Now, Alan and Marina have handed over the reins entirely to the next generation. But this year’s changes are the most dramatic in Rowallan House’s history.

New Day Care Centre

The new day care centre offers a wealth of activities and facilities for both the permanent residents and members of the local community. It includes a dining room that can double as a games room for quizzes, socials, craft activities and lots more. There is also a TV room, as well as a new garden for residents to enjoy.

The Rowallan Day Care Centre also works along organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia Friends to hold therapy sessions aimed at helping those who are battling these conditions. These include reminiscence and recall sessions.

A great opportunity for local residents

Throwing its doors open to the local community is already bringing a wave of benefits to local elderly residents. For those who live alone, and whose social interactions are often severely limited, it provides an opportunity to get out of the house and socialise in a bright and vibrant environment.

It is also a boon for families and carers of the elderly. Having a day care centre like this right on their doorstep means they can go to work, deal with other aspects of day to day life or simply take a break, and be comfortable in the knowledge that their loved one is in a safe, enjoyable and caring environment.

The new day care centre has undoubtedly brought Rowallan House firmly into the 21st century, and we can only watch and wait to see what further developments the next 35 years will bring.
